A sequence of events took place on September 11, 2001, that would alter the lives of many Americans for years to come. For some Americans, it would change their lives forever….
At 08:46 EDT, Flight 11 crashes into the North Tower of the World Trade Center.
At 09:03 EDT, Flight 175 crashes into the South Tower of the World Trade Center.
At 09:37 EDT, Flight 77 crashes into the Pentagon.
At 09:58 EDT, the South Tower of the World Trade Center collapses.
At 10:03 EDT, Flight 93 crashes in field in Pennsylvania.
At 10:28 EDT, the North Tower of the World Trade Center collapses.
President Bush writes in his journal at the end of that fateful day, “The Pearl Harbor of the 21st century took place today.”
I can remember very clearly where I was when the attacks happened. That day is burned into my memory as our lives changed dramatically that day. I remember the call from D telling me that he wouldn’t be coming home for at least a few days, so I needed to pack him some clothes and what not as he’d be staying at work. The base was on high alert. How security is handled on based changed from that day forward.
The events from that day changed the climate within the military community. Multiple deployments… Long deployments… This became the new normal for many military families.
So many lives were lost that September day. We will not forget…
- The lives of the innocent people who boarded the planes that day.
- The lives of those that were at work in the World Trade Center and Pentagon.
- The lives of the rescue workers and volunteers.
So many lives have been lost since that day. We will not forget all the military members who have given their lives since that day.
We came together as a nation that day. People started praying and going to church again. We mourned as a nation, and we lifted each other up. All too quickly that went away. So many people have forgotten that day, but we have not forgotten. It’s not Patriot Day as that is just stupid political correctness that trivializes what really happened that day. It was an act of cowardice, of terrorism that took the lives of innocent men, women, and children. No, September 11th is a day of remembrance for all those who lost their lives or gave their lives to help others.
It is up to us to keep their memory alive, to not forget what took place, to not be politically correct, to remember the horrible attack, to pass along our memories to younger generations. We must never forget to remember.
