Earlier this week, I received a call from an animal shelter. They had a horse who needed a new home – fast. (They had contacted the rescue last week, and I left a few messages but due to illness we hadn’t heard anything back until that point.) If they couldn’t rehome this healthy horse, they were going to put her down later that day. We talked back and forth a bit, and she decided to send me a video of the horse. Once I saw the video, I knew that I needed to talk to Izzy asap.
After viewing the video, Izzy agreed that we needed to save the horse. You see, this horse had been found by animal control running around the casino parking lot. There was a guy who was chasing her, but he refused to claim her. Then, no one showed up to claim her at the shelter. You can tell that she’s been fed, trained, and taken care of, so we’re really not sure what happened. Whatever the case, it would have been a real shame to see her put down just because the shelter had no more room.
M (the lady at the shelter) and I texted and called back and forth all week as we tried to find a way to get the horse to the rescue. The ranch’s horse trailer was in the shop for repairs. The other people who normally her out either had trucks or trailers in the shop, so they couldn’t bring the horse up. Thankfully, the powers that be at the shelter gave us a stay of execution, so we could work on getting the horse relocated.
We had been looking at horse trailers as we now need one as horse owners. On Wednesday evening, we picked up our new trailer which meant that we were able to go get the horse on Thursday morning. We picked Izzy up and headed over to check out this horse. As soon as we saw her, we knew that she was going to be a good horse.
It turns out that she’s really good – after you catch her. lol! We still need to see how she is under a saddle, but I think she’s going to be a great horse. We’ll see if our intuition is right. 😉
