Tender MerciesTender Mercies Book Description:

When Rosie, Carrie, and Grandma are asked to help out at Last Chance Corral, a horse and foal rescue, Rosie is shocked when she experiences firsthand how cruel some people can be to animals. During the week at Last Chance, the girls learn that the God who knows when a sparrow falls to the ground, works through the kindness of others to provide for the animals He created. For the foals, and the girls, Last Chance Corral is a life-changing experience.

vicki watsonAbout the Author:

Vicki Watson has a love of horses that began when a teenage neighbor offered her the opportunity to ride for the first time on the back of a horse. From her 8-year-old perspective, it seemed like the biggest horse in the world. From that moment on, she was hooked. Horses became a very important part of her life, although, she could never have imagined, at the time, how much God would teach her about Himself and her relationship to Him through horses.

My Thoughts:

Tender Mercies is the 4th book in the Sonrise Stable book series by Vicki Watson. In this book, we are introduced to Last Chance Corral – a horse and foal rescue – which is a real horse/foal rescue run by Victoria Goss. Readers will also learn about the sad practices surrounding nursemare foals when Grandma decides to take Rosie and Carrie with her to Last Chance Corral.

Tender Mercies is a little different from the first 3 books in the Sonrise Stable series (Rosie and Scamper, Carrie and Bandit, and Clothed with Thunder) as we not only follow along with the girls (and Grandma), but we also get to see the story from one of the foal’s perspective. As with the other books in the series, Vicki does a beautiful job of highlighting the importance of faith and family while providing an entertaining story featuring life around horses.

If you’re looking for a good horse series for your child that encourages Biblical teachings and a strong family unit, this series is for you.
