A couple of weeks ago, D, Munchkin, and I decided that it was time to give the WRR Horse Rescue Rhino an overhaul. It had seen better days due to accidents, and we were charged with keeping it at our place for a time period while the owner of the ranch decided what to do with it. Since D already had parts on order for routine maintenance, we knew it was a perfect opportunity to jazz it up a bit.
There was barely anything left of the hood and it was missing a light. The bumper was pretty much toast and only held on by a strap.
The green plastic was faded and cracked due to the sun. The seats were missing their original covers/pads and were starting to rust.
Munchkin and I decided on a fun, bright color scheme – orange and red.
D thought a new bumper would be an excellent time to work on his welding skills.
Munchkin carefully disassembled the rhino – removing all the plastic parts. I then cleaned them and painted them orange. Once they were dry, she and Daddy reassembled the Rhino.
We were quite pleased with the transformation. Of course, a used, fully functional hood that we painted the same orange did help. **grin**
After a few test fits, D was able to get the new bumper all welded together. He then added several coats of flat black paint. I think the finished product looks great. Yep, I’m really proud of his hard work.
For the seats, I painted them a nice, glossy red and sewed some seat cushions. I found a fun fabric that tied together the red seats and orange paint job.
The final touch was creating a stencil of the rescue logo and adding it to the hood. I used the same red paint that I used on the seats. The rescue owner was thrilled was the entire overhaul, but it was the logo that made it super special.
