While Munchkin has been doing some school the last few weeks, it hasn’t been the full load of classes. Today, we’re officially starting our 9th year of homeschooling only it’s starting off a little differently due to our new volunteer work at the horse rescue. Our new school day will also look different as school work will be done after we get home from the stables.
Our curriculum is similar to what we used last year with a few changes. Here’s what we plan on using this year:
- Biblical Archaeology
- Latin (combination of Visual Latin and Lingva Latina)
- Thinkwell Math
- Horse Sense (online course through Michigan State University)
- Chemistry
- American History
- Analytical Grammar
- Writing – continue work on second book in her series
- Natural Health (for human and possibly horse)
- American Heritage Girls
- Volunteering at the Stables
As always, I’m sure we’ll make adjustments as needed to the course work. You can see that we’re really starting to tailor her studies to her interests even more as she gets older. Once she completes her online Thinkwell Math, we’ll probably switch to doing some sort of business math that relates to running a ranch/farm/horse business. Will she ultimately end up going in this direction with her life? Only the Lord knows that right now, but it appears that is where she is headed, so we want to help prepare her for that.
Originally, we thought that we were going to enroll her in a local community college for a class or two, but after looking over the schedule and offered courses, we’re going to hold off on that for now. We’ll revisit that option in the winter/spring and see if it’s a better fit at that point in time. Another option we’ve considered is her attending Vet Tech school when she turns 16, but that’s not this school year. 😉 (We haven’t found any that will allow her to attend prior to that age.)
In addition to the classes and activities listed above, Munchkin has also decided to try out the youth group at a local church to see what it is like. Plus, we’ll be participating to some extent with a local homeschool group that does park days, activities, and field trips. We’re still working on the schedule to see how this will all fit together. We do not want to be exhausted because of too many outside activities. We’re looking forward to seeing what adventures this new homeschool year will hold for us.

Did you ever make more vocabulary cards or grammar helps for Visual Latin? I found your blog this morning as I was searching for some kind of grammar/vocab strengthening activities, charts or whatever to go along with our Visual Latin studies we have begun. The boys (senior and 7th grader) are studying together at different paces and love it so far. I just printed out your cards and look forward to printing out the amazingly well-done game you created. Did you begin with a template of some sort or a drawing? That would be fun to edit for use in other subjects, too.
I did make a bunch of vocabulary cards for the game, and then I lost them all when my computer crashed. Ugh! They were one of the few things that didn’t get backed up. 🙁 I made the game from scratch using my Printmaster program.
