Starting to Pack

Moving Boxes filled with books

It’s hard to believe that it’s time to start packing for our move. Part of that is because we plan on moving out of housing a bit early. The plan, which could change as it’s not set in stone yet, is to have the movers come in May, so we’ll be out of housing by the end of May. Daddy will stay in the trailer while Munchkin and I (along with the dogs) head up to the cabin. Daddy would probably come up there most weekends, but that all depends on what is going on. We haven’t worked out all of those details yet.

Moving to the cabin temporarily will give Munchkin the chance to work more with our sweet neighbor up there who has the horses. It’s a good opportunity for our girl who loves horses. It gives me the time to wrap up some of the things we need to get done up there as it would be much easier to accomplish more while actually living at the property. In addition, it would allow us to save up the required deposit for moving into off-base housing. Since the on-base housing wait it 18 months, we’ll just be living out in town this time around.

I’m currently making decisions on what to pack to take up there with us, and what to allow the movers to pack up and take. There are certain things that I always pack myself as I don’t like the way the movers pack. Plus, I like to set aside our pro-gear things, so there is no confusion for weight allowances. This time around, I’m taking inventory of all of our books (everything will be recorded in an excel document) and other supplies and labeling the boxes as they lost several of our things during the last move. It’s taking a bit longer, but I think it will be worth it in the event of a loss.

It’s also time go through our things and make sure that we’re not moving unwanted/unneeded items. That’s always an adventure. Yesterday, I tackled the master closet. Whew! I’m not sure how, but it always seems to be the catchall place for everything in our home. Yikes! I’m glad that it’s done, and I even found a few things that I had been looking for. 😉 Now, I’m off to pack some more boxes. 🙂

    • I’m not big on moving either, but it’s one of those things we just have to do. This boxes are wonderful for books as they’re really sturdy!
