Camping… Raining… Monopoly

Playing Monopoly

While we were camping, we had several rainy evenings. Munchkin loves to play board games, so she always brings along a few games when we go camping in our trailer. Usually, she brings a backpack filled with smaller, on-the-go type games as well as a couple of full-size games such as Risk and Monopoly. Well, rainy evenings (and some days) meant that she was happily pulling out the games rather frequently this trip. Her game of choice this time? Monopoly.

Playing Monopoly

During our trip, pretty much every night was a Monopoly game night. I’m not big into board games, but both Daddy and Munchkin really enjoy them. Needless to say, I usually get roped into a game or two as it’s always entertaining with more participants. Apparently, I added some entertainment value with my flare for rolling the dice in odd ways. At least, that was what I was told. I’m not sure what was so crazy about my roll of the dice. I mean… isn’t rolling the dice suppose to create an earthquake effect on all of the houses and hotels on the board? **wink**

Playing Monopoly

For as long as I can remember, Daddy has always won when they played Monopoly, but on this trip, something started to change. Munchkin had a little more strategy as she tried to beat Daddy. There was definitely a good bit of calculating going on as she decided which pieces of property to purchase and then develop with houses and hotels. Mortgaging properties (when needed) and trading became an art form as they tried to out-strategize each other.

Playing Monopoly

Finally, the tide began to turn as Munchkin started to win games. Some games went later into the night as neither one of them would give up. Munchkin wanted to play until the last dollar had been spent. What really impressed me most was that she was having such fun playing the game – win or lose. Her attitude, while competitive, was beautiful. Even when she lost or had something crazy happen, she still enjoyed the game and laughed and joked with Daddy. It warmed this mama’s heart.
