Thankful for Air Conditioning

Posted in Family, and Military Life

Air Conditioning Unit

We woke up to a very hot Monday morning, not unlike most mornings here in the desert of Arizona. Only, today it wasn’t just hot outside – the inside of the house felt warm too. I headed over to the thermostat to see the temperature inside rising. Something was wrong with the air conditioning. I started up with the normal checks… air filter, breaker… Everything was fine. I moved outside. The unit was dead. The compressor wasn’t running. The fan wasn’t moving. Ugh! I call over to base housing maintenance, and they put in an emergency maintenance request. We should hear back shortly – either by phone or in person. So we wait…

Time passes, but I hear nothing. The temps in the house are slowly rising even though I have things buttoned up. At noon, it’s 108 degrees outside and the temps continue to rise. The rather furry dogs are panting hard, so I try to encourage them to relax and drink more. We have the fans going until… click… the power goes out. The power is out in housing. Then the power is out on base except for the back-up generators for military personnel. I call over to maintenance again as it’s been a couple of hours. They haven’t been able to get in contact with anyone; it’s probably due to the power being out. We wait…

Finally, the power does come back on, but we still haven’t had any response to the a/c being out. I call directly over to base housing now. There was a glitch in the system, and they never received the notification. They’ll send someone out as soon as possible.  We wait…

Eventually, someone shows up. I’m grateful that it’s the actual a/c repair guy, so we don’t have to go through the normal routine of having someone come verify that it’s not something simple and them calling in the a/c repair guy. He sees that the compressor booster (or something like that) is blown and replaces it. The fan starts up, but the compressor won’t kick on until he gets it cooled off. He stands out there in the scorching sun spraying off the a/c unit until the compressor finally kicks on. He wasn’t going to leave until it had started. (Thankful for that!) He says it will take a little while for the a/c to cool off the house. Once again, we wait…

Bedtime arrives and the house still hasn’t cooled off. I fear that I’ll need to place yet another call for a/c repair. There is nothing we can do right now, so off we go to bed. You guessed it. We continue to wait….

When morning comes, the house has finally cooled off and the a/c is properly working. In the heat of the Arizona desert, I am extremely grateful for our working air conditioning. The Lord, once again, supplied for our needs.

But my God shall supply all your needs
according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus

  2. Living in the south, we have experienced our air going out in the heat of the summer. It is miserable! So glad that you got yours running again. God loves to hear our grateful hearts…even in the small stuff! Happy TT!
