Katie Lapp finds herself drawn to some of the English ways even though she’s a member of a well-respected Amish family. She’s betrothed to the Bishop, but she is conflicted about the upcoming wedding. When a stranger shows up in town, her mom and dad start to act different. A piece of a burned letter sets of a chain of events for which no one within the community is prepared.
My Thoughts:
Danielle Panabaker (Katie Lapp) does a wonderful job in the starring role in this movie. Her character is believable as each emotion is displayed prominently on her face and every word seems truly heartfelt. All of the characters did a great job immersing themselves in their roles. They character portrayals and accents did not feel forced or fake. The movie itself was clean and a good family film from beginning to end.
The Shunning, which was shown on the Hallmark Channel, is based upon Beverly Lewis’ book by the same name.
About the book author:
Beverly Lewis, born in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch country, is The New York Times bestselling author of more than eighty books. Her stories have been published in eleven languages worldwide. A keen interest in her mother’s Plain heritage has inspired Lewis to write many Amish-related novels, beginning with “The Shunning,” which has sold more than one million copies. In 2007, Lewis’ “The Brethren” was honored with a Christy Award.
Lewis has been interviewed by both national and international media, including Time magazine, the Associated Press, and the BBC. Lewis lives with her husband, David, in Colorado.

I received a copy of the above mentioned dvd to help facilitate the writing of this review. A positive review is not guaranteed, and all opinions are my own. This post may contains amazon affiliate link(s).
My new favorite movie is Voyage of the Dawn Treader. We watched it last night as a family and it was an awesome discussion starter. There also seems to be a couple family friendly movies out at the theatre now and I’m happy about that.
