Simple Changes for a Happy, Healthy 2011

Posted in Family

I’ve been writing a bit lately about some of the changes that I’ve been making in my life this year to help our family have a happy, healthy 2011.  Change is never easy, but when you have the proper motivation, it’s much easier.  Many of the motivating factors for me this year are family based.  I want our family to be able to spend more quality time together doing the things that we enjoy.  Munchkin is growing up so fast; we need to take advantage of the time that we have now.

Healthy EatingI’m tackling my health…

One of the first things that I’ve been tackling this year is my health.  I’m trying again to tackle a fitness routine.  The first thing that I do when I get up in the morning is work out.  I do not get on the computer until I have worked out in the morning.  We want to do some pretty good hikes as a family, and I need to be in shape in order to do this.  I’m keeping my eye on this goal as I work out each day.  I’m currently using my Wii for my workouts.  I’m doing the 30 Day Challenge with EA Sports Active.  I’m starting out slow, and I’ll build up to longer, harder workouts in time.

The second thing that I’m tackling also relates to my health and the health of my family members.  I’m learning more about natural remedies such as using essential oils.  I want to try to head off many of the health issues that we are dealing with at our house.  We may not be able to avoid sickness, but I’d like to minimize it if possible.

The third thing ties into the natural remedies – natural, organic foods.  We trying to eat more organic and whole foods.  While we have already been doing this to some degree, this year, we’ll be trying to replace more and more products with healthier versions.  Some things, we’ll have to do away with all together, but it will be worth it for better health.

We’re reducing outside activities…

The final thing that we’re doing is cutting out excess outside activities this year.  We’re spending more time at home, and more time doing family activities.  This is leading to more quality time together and less craziness in our schedules.  We’re more relaxed, and we find ourselves able to focus more on things that are truly important to us.

It’s definitely not easy to implement these different changes into our lives, but the growing pains that we’re experiencing along the way are worth it.  Munchkin is only young for a short period of time, and I don’t want to miss one precious moment.

  1. Great changes! We are working on eating healthier. I would like to do some exercising, but haven’t gotten up the motivation for it of yet.
