Review: The Miracle of Mercy Land

Posted in Reviews

The Miracle of Mercy Land“I was born in a lightning bolt on the banks of the Bittersweet Creek. My name is Mercy Land.”

Mercy Land is the daughter of a traveling preacher who is working at a local paper.  Over the 7 years working at the newspaper, the publisher and editor, Doc Philips, becomes more than a mentor to to Mercy.  He also becomes a dear friend.

When a curious book comes to Doc, he immediately turns to the one person who he can trust with this life-changing secret, Mercy.  Little did either of them know as this crazy journey began that the choices they were making now could have life-altering effects on those around them.  A choice by Doc brings a mysterious, yet somehow familiar stranger back into Mercy’s life.

My Thoughts:

The story was well-written with numerous twists and turns that held the reader in suspense until the very end of the book.  For the most part, the characters were well developed.  That being said, the supernatural and dark elements in the book left me feeling a bit unsettled.  In addition, some of the elements and characters lacked closure at the book.

River Jordan is a highly talented writer.  Unfortunately, this particular book just wasn’t my cup of tea.

About the Author:

RIVER JORDAN began her writing career as a playwright with the Loblolly Theatre group. She teaches and speaks nationwide on ‘The Power of Story’, is a monthly contributor to the southern authors’ collective A Good Blog is Hard To Find, and produces and hosts the weekly radio program CLEARSTORY with River Jordan, in Nashville, where she and her husband live. She is the author of Saints in Limbo and this is her fourth novel.

  1. Sounds like we had some similar thoughts on this one. I got drawn into it, but wasn’t thrilled with the fantastical elements of it.
