God’s Mighty Acts in Creation
by Starr Meade
When you look at nature, do you see the creation or the Creator? Everything in nature can tell us something about God. From the tiny little ants to the vast ocean, nature gives us wonderful insight about our Creator. The Lord uses Creation to teach us many lessons.
“The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” Psalm 19:1
God’s Mighty Acts in Creation begins with an introduction about creation and the Creator. These first two lessons really make readers think about the relationship between our Creator and His creation. The lessons encourage the reader to really think about how creation declares the glory of God. The questions ask readers to really ponder if they are truly worshiping the Creator and not His creation.
“Our goal [with this study] will be to develop the habit of looking at creation and “seeing” reminders of God, so that we’ll… worship God for who he is and what he has done.”
After the first two introduction lessons, the book is broken down by the days of Creation (minus day 2).
- Day 1: Light and Water (10 lessons)
- Day 3: Land and Plants (10 lessons)
- Day 4: Sun, Moon, and Stars (5 lessons)
- Day 5: Birds and Fish (6 lessons)
- Day 6: Animals and People (12 lessons)
Each lesson includes a Bible reading selection, a key verse (or verses), the lesson, and the “as for me and my house” discussion/action question(s). The “as for me and my house” encourages readers to dig deeper and really think about what they just read and studied.
We found that this book makes a great family Bible study. While it’s geared towards 8-12 year-olds, D feels that it may be a little too in-depth for some kids on the younger end of that age range, but when a family does the study together, parents can help kids work through the lessons. It’s a great opportunity to really dig into the topic and have some interesting family discussions about creation, the Bible, and the Creator.
As a family who loves exploring God’s wondrous creation, we are enjoying doing these Bible studies together. It’s good to remember to truly see God in everything around us and study to see what we can learn. While we are created in God’s image, we can learn a great deal from all of God’s creation both great and small.
