The Way Home

Randy Simpkins, played by Dean Cain, loves his family, but he’s lost focus on what is truly important.  He’s spending too much time trying to provide for the family through work instead of giving them what they truly need – quality time with him.  Randy feels like he is constantly being pulled between work and family.  Unfortunately, work seems to win out more often which is starting to take a toll on his relationship with his wife, Chrystal.

While they are getting ready to head out on a trip, Randy gets caught up in checking up on some work stuff when he’s suppose to be keeping an eye on his two-year-old son, Joe.  All too quickly, he realizes the mistake he’s made when, in the blink of an eye, his son is gone.  Chrystal and Randy begin a frantic search for Joe.  Family and friends join in on the search.  Prayer chains are started.  Police and firefighters search along side of a multitude of volunteers to find young Joe.

Randy and Chrystal’s already strained relationship is tested as is their faith as hour after hour passes with no sign of little Joe.  As the sun begins to set, hope begins to fade.  Will the day end in rejoicing or tragedy?

My thoughts:

The Way Home is based upon the true story of the Simpkins family.  The real Randy Simpkins was actually the executive producer on this film.

A lost child is one of a parent’s worst nightmares, so it is very easy to be drawn into the story.  You find yourself aching for this family as they search for their lost two-year-old son.  The outpouring of the community as a whole for this family was inspiring.  You could really see the Lord’s hand on all that was happening.

The actors did a wonderful job portraying the characters in the movie.  While the movie crept along at some points, I felt that the storyline was good.  It’s an em

  5. We used to have family night once a week, but that’s fallen by the wayside between the baby and move. With winter weather coming, it’s a great time to get back to it.

  6. We have family night at least once per week. Sometimes more. It’s a little harder now with dad in school on nights, but if you count the nights that the rest are home (minus dad) we have family nights 3 times per week.

We have family night at least 2 weekends a month as everyones schedule permits. We mark it on the calendar to make sure the kids do not cross plan activities of their own.
