Major James Matthew Weis, USMC

1972-2010

On Thursday, July 22, 2010, Major James Matthew Weis, USMC, 37 was killed during combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.   He was assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, I Marine Expeditionary Force, based in Camp Pendleton, CA.

Major Weis grew up in New Jersey and graduated from Toms River North High School.  He earned a degree from Rutgers University.  He joined the Marine Corps in 1994 and was commissioned as an officer in 1996.  He was a highly decorated Cobra pilot.

Major Weis leaves behind his wife and 2 young sons. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Weis family at this time.

    It’s good that you post this information. My husband came home from Iraq, we thought safely…but we’re now dealing with a hidden TBI and the VA is denying it! Long fight ahead!
