This week at VBS D and I have been quite challenged with some of the kids in our group. We spend so much time focusing on keeping them in line that we’re concerned with whether or not they are learning anything. We walk away completely spent each evening. Yet, there are moments here and there where we can see a little glimmer of hope coming from these particular kids. It is in these moments that we can really see that we are the salt and light here. We have to keep going even when we feel that we’ve reached our limits. We have to get our strength from the Lord and pray that He can use us to honor and glorify Him.
We can pray that by being the salt and light for some of these kids that they will in turn be salt and light to their family and friends. Maybe seeds of hope and God’s love are being planted in the lives of these young kids. The Lord has placed these kids in our group for a reason. I need to remember this as I start to grow weary as the evening passes. I need to allow the love of the Lord to flow through me a I guide the kids, instruct the kids, and mentor the kids.
You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. ~ Matthew 5:13-16 ~

Dear Heather, I grew up in a very UNChrisitian home. Things were…hard. I went to a VBS in the first grade where I learned that Jesus loved me and would forgive me. We made a book mark with verses on it which I carried with me for years. That was the only spiritual food I received until my early 20s at which time I gave my life to Christ. VBS planted the seed of hope and love that carried me through the years of trial. Ultimately, when things were darkest, I ran to Jesus because that seed was already there.
You are doing a great work for the Lord. I am praying for your strength through the rest of this week and beyond.
Thank you, Lorie, for that beautiful testimony and the words of encouragement.
May God greatly bless all your efforts sweetie.

For those hard to manage ones, I find that they’re often listening even when they’re not sitting quietly as I would like.

praying that things get easier for all of you. God Bless 🙂
I’ll be praying for your little VBS’ers. I never heard of VBS until I was married, but going to summer camp with a friend of mine was where I found Jesus, so I know the effect that ministry from others has on children! hugs and prayers!!
