While we were camping near the Grand Canyon we decided to take advantage of our location, and we went to see the Wupatki National Monument. You saw a glimpse of the ruins at the monument on my Wordless Wednesday post.
One of the really fun things about this National Park area was that you could actually go into many of the different ruins. Some areas were marked with do not enter or do not walk here signs. They tried to have these signs blend with the natural surroundings, so the notices were painted on rocks.
Munchkin enjoyed hiking around to each of the different areas. She also did the Junior Ranger program here.
Looking up from below made me feel rather small. You can’t see it in this picture, but there was a little kid looking out one of those windows when I took the picture.
The size of the base rocks was just amazing. You have to wonder how much of the dirt has washed away since these dwellings were originally built.
This large ruins area was at the visitor center for the national monument. It involved a good bit of walking up and down hills. By the time we got here, we were already tired from all of the walking around, but it was worth the extra effort to see the various areas.
We made one last stop on the way out of the park. It involved one more hike to see several different dwellings. Some were very run down and others were in really good shape. These ruins were near a canyon, so you had to be a little more careful where you stepped. It was a nice ending to a long, fun day.
The day trip began with a plan to just go to the Sunset Crater and ended up being quite the adventure…
I loved that pictures…hey, was that Tim Mcgraw & Abigail Breslin, oh nope, it was D & Munchkin…loved the cowboy hat & the big ole’ sunglasses! they looked like they enjoyed it very much!!! Thanks for sharing, God Bless!
lol! D was away from a military base, so he took advantage of that and didn’t shave. (For the record, I hate it when he doesn’t shave, but it makes him happy to go a few days without shaving. What’s a girl to do?)
Munchkin is a ham. She couldn’t find her sunglasses, so she grabbed some old ones that I had won from Tupperware (back when I was selling it). It turns out that she really likes them.
WOW! Those are neat ruins. I’ll have to look those up to see if it is close to where we will be staying. 😀

It really is cool. If you can get there while you’re at the Grand Canyon, I do recommend it.
I love this post. Such beautiful pictures. I want to go there someday!

We’ve been really blessed to be able to go to so many places due to our military moves. We try to focus on that aspect when it comes to moving day.
