1st Game of the 2010 Baseball Season

Posted in Family, and Military Life

The baseball season has officially begun.  We’ve been having practices for the past 2 weeks, but this week was the first game.  D is coaching, and I’m helping him out.  We also have several other parents that are helping with the team.  I’m thrilled with the group of kids on our team, and with the parents who are actively involved.  What a huge blessing!

3rd Base

This year is a bit different for us.  In the past, we played in a HUGE homeschool league.  This year, we’re playing in the base league.  We have 2 teams, so we’ll be playing the same team each week.  It really is a great opportunity for these kids to grow and learn the game.  It will be an opportunity for them to learn teamwork, respect, and good sportsmanship.

It's a Hit

We have kids of all different skill levels from 1st time players to player who have been playing for 9 years.  This is Munchkin’s 3rd year playing.  Munchkin is growing quickly, so she’s still growing into those long legs of hers.  She also has more power and control when it comes to batting and throwing.  It will be fun to watch all the kids get better during the season.

Running to 1st

It’s coach pitch again this year, so Munchkin likes that Daddy is pitching to her.  She likes the high pitches.  You think that has anything to do with how tall her Daddy is? lol!  I got to be the 3rd base coach.  We really need to work on getting the kids to listen to their base coaches.  **sigh**  That will come in time.  Being the 3rd base coach means that I don’t get to take too many pictures.  One of the other parents took my place in the final inning, so I got a few shots of Munchkin.

On 1st

This year, in this league, there is no stat keeping – no score keeping.  Each inning consists of each team getting 5 runs or 3 outs – whichever comes first.  This has created a less competitive environment than the little league teams out in town.  The parents are happy with this, and I think the kids will enjoy it more.  That doesn’t mean the kid don’t know who won though. lol!  Today, our team came out on top, but both teams played really well and had great sportsmanship.

After the game was over, I handed out fresh slices of cold watermelon.  The kids loved it.  Plus, it helped them to get hydrated.  After a short team meeting, everyone set off to enjoy the rest of their day.  For now, it’s warm, but not too hot.  Later in the season, we’re all going to be baking in the hot Arizona sun…
