Foto Friday Challenge: Spring

Posted in Photography

I’ve been told that we’ve had more rain this year than is normal for this area. Since it’s our first year here, I really have no idea what to expect. It didn’t seem like we received that much rain, but we received enough that the desert has decided to come to life…

Desert Flowers 1

These little flowers could be seen all over the place nestled in among the rocks.  There were tiny white, pink, and purple flowers all over the desert.

Desert Flower 2

I’m not thrilled with the way this one turned out, but I really liked this flower.  I have no idea what it is, but it was so pretty.  We saw several of them scattered around the desert terrain.

Cactus 1

The prickly pear cactus are starting to get these buds on them.  I think they’re really pretty.  Our “puppy” is drawn towards the cactus, so we need to keep a close eye on him when we’re out.

Cactus 2

If you look really closely at this picture, you can see little white/see-through critters crawling on the buds.  I didn’t see this when I was taking the picture.  I saw them once I put the pictures on my computer.  I thought it was pretty cool.  It’s amazing what you can see when you look at things in micro mode.  I only wish I would have realized they were there as I would have tried to focus right on them.  Munchkin would have loved that.

Moving away from the desert scenery…  I thought it would be fun to also take a couple of pictures of an actual spring instead of just focusing on the time of year and signs of spring. Unfortunately, I didn’t get as many pictures taken as expected. I got too busy reading and forgot to take more pictures.

Trampoline Spring

I wish I would have noticed the cement block before I took this picture, but I still like the way that this turned out.

Slinky 1

Slinky 2

Slinky 3

Spring pictures just wouldn’t be complete without a few pictures of the classic slinky.  Well, this is actually a mini slinky, but it still works.

  3. You have taken the stereo type thoughts I’ve had of the desert and turned them on their head! Its always played up as just dry and dusty and hot, your photos certainly prove otherwise! Just lovely!

The desert can be very, very dry, dusty, and hot. Yet, it can also be absolutely beautiful. We also have lots of produce that grows here in months other than the summer. 🙂

The slinky pictures were fun. It actually worked out that the slinky was a little stretched out as it stayed in place better.
