10 Ways to Get Fit after the Holidays

Posted in Commercial Break, and Thoughts

The holidays are filled with lots of fun and an amazing amount of great food.  Sadly, they don’t tend to be filled with much exercise.  I know that I usually walk away from holiday eating a bit heavier.  Thankfully, due to our normally healthy diet, it’s not too difficult to get back on track.  These are my top 10 ideas for getting fit after the holidays:

  1. Drink Water – I personally do not care for drinking lots of water, but I know that my body needs water.  One of the best ways to make sure that I’m drinking enough water is to fill a stainless steel water bottle X times per day (depends on the size of the water bottle).  Sometimes, I’ll add some lemon juice to the water to make it easier to drink.
  2. Eat at home – We are less likely to overeat if we eat at home.  When we go out to eat, we often feel the need to eat everything on our plate because we paid good money for it.  At home, I just serve myself a smaller portion, so there is no waste.
  3. Cook from scratch – Generally speaking, cooking from scratch means healthier ingredients.  I control what goes into our food.
  4. Plan your meals – If you plan out your meals for the week, you are less likely grab something unhealthy to eat.
  5. Don’t skip meals – Skipping meals sets me up for failure.  I get more hungry which often leads to me grabbing junk to snack on during the day.
  6. Healthy snacks – Because I need to snack throughout the day, I make sure that I have healthy snacks readily available.
  7. Sleep – It’s critical for my health that I make sure I am getting enough sleep and quality sleep.  For me, that means that I need to have the house cooler at night to help me sleep better.  I also need to do something relaxing prior to going to sleep.
  8. Physical activity with kiddo – Doing physical activities with Munchkin is a great way for me to add more exercise to my day.  Go for a walk, play ball, or throw an airplane.  It’s great for my health, and it’s great for our relationship.
  9. Exercise – One of our favorite ways to exercise has to be playing on the Wii.  I am more likely to be consistent about exercise when I can do it with my family and in the comfort of my own home.
  10. Laugh – Having a good tickle session with my daughter is a great way to start the laughter.  Laughter lightens the mood, burns calories, and improves your overall health.

Some excellent advice there, too. 🙂

We are eating salads and leftover meat from Christmas still.

Water is great – now all that I need to do is to convince the children. 😛

    Have a great week,
    Blessings,
    Jillian

All very good points! I try to do almost all on the list…about the water I'm like you don't want to drink it but Ifind the carbonated water @ Walmart or Sams is very good zero calories 🙂 the crystal light flavor packets are good as well ~ helps to get it all in!!! Ah if only I were born THIN, LOL!
