Yuma Armed Forces Park

On Veterans Day, we try to do something to remember all of the Veterans who have fought so bravely for our country.  This year, we didn’t have anything particular in mind.  As we were driving to one of our planned field trip locations, we stumbled upon this memorial site.  We decided to stop and look at all of the names on the walls.

These walls were different than places that we have gone to in the past.  The names listed on these plaques weren’t just troops that had passed away.  There were those who are still serving, those that had retired, and those that were honorably discharged.  The dates listed on most of the plaques showed the dates they served instead of their birth and death dates.

As we walked and looked at the names and dates, D quizzed Munchkin on what war they would have fought in based upon the dates that they served.  We saw many family members listed together.  Some families had service members that spanned several generations.

While we may not know these men and women personally, we automatically feel a connection with them and their families.  There were 2 older gentlemen, veterans, that were walking along the wall looking for particular names while we were there.  A simple thank you and a smile was all that was said as we walked along.
