“A dangerous quest to a mysterious mountain—but how will it end?…When Gavin’s career comes to an abrupt end, the talented young minstrel learns that King Emmanuel has plans for him—plans that promise life and purpose. But Gavin must make a difficult journey to a mysterious mountain.
The young minstrel eagerly starts on his quest with three companions, but the travelers are warned that Thunder Mountain is a place of terror and treachery. Will Gavin and his friends find Emmanuel’s will on the mountain, or are they walking into a trap?”
The Quest for Thunder Mountain is the first book in the seven book Tales from Terrestria series (not all books have been written at the time of this review). Unlike the companion series, The Terrestria Chronicles, the Tales from Terrestria series are stand alone books and can be read in any order.
The book begins with a young minstrel, Gavin, who has abruptly become unemployed. What seems like a tragedy to him soon turns into a grand quest as he seeks to find King Emmanuel’s will for his life. Along the way, he meets other travelers who are on the same quest. Together, they try to discern between those who serve Emmanuel and those who serve Argamor.
We had not read The Terrestria Chronicles prior to reading this book. While I think it would be better to read them first to gain more insight into Terrestria, it was not difficult to follow. Both Munchkin and I were immediately drawn into Terrestria, so we want to know more about this land and everything that had happened prior to this book.
The picture images and storyline are quite enjoyable. The correlations between the story and the Christian walk were not forced; they flowed smoothly. Munchkin and I both enjoyed the story line and had fun talking about different moments in the story. The Valley of the Dragons was a favorite for her.
This book truly is written in a way that honors and glorifies the Lord. It could open many doors to deep conversations about our Saviour’s love and His will for our own lives. This would be a great book to be read together in the evenings, and/or it could be incorporated into daily devotional time. I can also see this book being used as an outreach ministry for churches.
From the author:
Like the Terrestria Chronicles, each Tales from Terrestria book is written to honor and glorify the Lord Jesus Christ as King and challenge the reader to love and serve Him. The stories are fast-paced and captivating, but each was written to deliver a powerful message and draw your heart to the King.
Tales from Terrestria: The Quest for Thunder Mountain can be purchased for $7.99.
On a personal note, we are keeping the Dunlop family in our prayers as Ed’s wife, Jan, lost her battle with cancer on October 29, 2009.
