Foto Friday: Water

Posted in Family, and Photography

Well, I’m only a week behind on this challenge.  I do have a good excuse as D arrived home on Friday instead of Saturday as expected last week.  I spent most of my day outside with him as he worked on my vehicle and Munchkin played.  Then, we spent the day on Saturday exploring.  On Sunday, we went to church and had a day of rest.  On Monday, we did more exploring.

We decided to picnic next to the water. D and Munchkin had fun throwing rocks into the water as I tried to capture the splash. It never worked, but I did capture the cool ripple.

By the picnic area, there was this really interesting trough water fountain.  (One thing that we’ve learned since being here is that you really can’t drink out of the water fountains as the water is salty and just plain yucky.)  Munchkin and I started playing around with the water fountain trying out different shots.  We liked the little bubbles that formed on the water in the trough when you used the water fountain.

Munchkin thought it would be fun to try to capture the drips from the trough as they fell to the ground.  I positioned myself under the fountain and yes, I did get a little wet.  While the drip isn’t crystal clear, I liked how you could see Munchkin in the background on this one.

The wind then began to blow.  The water drips started to go a little crazy.  My camera began to get wet.  We decided it was time to continue on with our day…

I LOVE the last three shots—especially the second to last. That one is just gorgeous! The water and wood, perfectly in focus, but still with your girlie in the background blurred a bit. That is a really neat fountain.

I think it is interesting how the second to last and last one have such different "feels" to them, even though they are exactly the same subject in the same position and everything. The last one looks very cold and wintery. The other one looks like the epitome of summer fun. That is neat.

I think the trick to taking pictures of the actual splash is to snap the picture just as you hear the stone hit the water. It takes a second for the water to bounce up and out—and that second will be accounted for. Or maybe I am totally wrong, but I think that is how I have done it in the past. Have a great weekend with your beautiful family!
