Have you ever wanted to learn to crochet, but you couldn’t quite get it from just looking at the books? Did you ever wish that you had someone to show you how to do it? Would you like to be able to learn on your own timetable from the comfort of your own home?
Well, I was in that situation. I really wanted to learn how to crochet or knit. I had tried to learn how to knit, but I just couldn’t get it just from looking at pictures. The videos that were free online didn’t really cut it either. Then, I signed up for a contest to win the Basic Crochet: A Stitch by Stitch Video by Kathy Brodock. Imagine my surprise and delight when I won!!
When I received my dvd, I grabbed my yarn and crochet hook and popped in the dvd. It felt as if Kathy was welcoming me into her home. She sat me down for my first lesson, and I actually got it. I loved being able to pause and rewind so I could really get the particular stitch. No, my stitches weren’t even, but I was able to actually create a wristband for Munchkin’s American Girl Doll. (She was quite impressed.) Yes, I started out small.
Kathy starts by explaining the different sizes and types of hooks and by giving information about different types of yarn. She then goes over crochet patterns. From there, she describes and shows the different hand positions used during crocheting. Then, it’s time to start crocheting! With step by step instructions, you learn how to do different stitches. By the time you are done, you will have learned how to change colors of yarn and make a dishcloth, a granny square, and a scarf.
I look forward to using this dvd to make more things in the winter months. I believe that Munchkin will be joining me in my attempt to start making fun projects for her dolls. Hmm… We may even have some new scarves for winter in our future thanks to Kathy’s wonderful instruction.
I was so impressed with the dvd that I had to purchase her cake decorating dvd as well. Munchkin plans on using that to help her learn how to decorate a cake for my birthday next month.
The Basic Crochet dvd is available at Kathy’s website, Teaching Good Things for $21.97.
