Our Week in Review

Posted in Family, and Thoughts

Our week started out with a visit to a new church. We had driven by this church many times, so we decided to try it out this past Sunday. Since it was missionary week, we didn’t really get to experience what the church would normally be like. But, we did experience a very friendly group of people that welcomed us with open arms. We spent most of the day on Sunday relaxing as neither of us was feeling all that well.

Monday and Tuesday were just normal school days. We worked a bit harder this week to get things done as we know that Daddy is coming home next week. Munchkin buckled down and worked on her school work, and I read extra chapters from Little House on the Prairie.

Tuesday evening, I realized that I hadn’t completed the blanket that needed to be sent to the Marines returning from Iraq. I pulled out the fleece materials and began the tedious process of cutting 1 inch strips all around the 6 plus feet of material. (Since my hubby is tall and everything is always too short, I wanted to make sure this blanket would fit anyone). After completing the cutting, I tied 2 of the sides together before falling asleep that evening.

Wednesday morning, Munchkin and I completed the blanket and boxed it up. We then went to work on all of her school work. In the afternoon, we knew that we’d be heading over to the first planning meeting of our local homeschooling group. I wanted to drop off the package at the post office before we went, so we needed to get everything done before the meeting. Thankfully, Munchkin was motivated and the school day went by quickly.

The homeschool meeting didn’t go exactly as expected, but we did iron out many different details. We’re going to be having themed activities once a month (November = fall/Thanksgiving theme) which should be a lot of fun for the kids. I’m looking forward to seeing this group bloom and grow.

Thursday saw me laid up in bed. Sadly, this meant that we were missing out on homeschool swimming which Munchkin adores. She’s a little fish and loves being in the water whenever possible. Every Thursday, the local youth center opens their doors to homeschoolers for an open swim and/or swim lessons for a reasonable fee. Munchkin loves it.

Friday, I forced myself out of bed and got Munchkin up early as we headed over to the Botanical Gardens for homeschool takeover days. The Botanical Gardens are just beautiful; we enjoy seeing the differences as the seasons change. We met up with some other homeschoolers from our group and had a lovely time. The kids had fun together even though Munchkin is a bit older than the others that were there.

Back home we went for a few hours (to rest a bit) before heading over to soccer practice. After soccer practice, we’ve started the routine of stopping by the frozen custard place on the way home. Munchkin and I share a small ice cream. It cools her off and provides a fun treat. A quick shower is followed by our Adventures in Odyssey session and devotions. Then it’s off to bed for Munchkin.

This morning, on the way over to the soccer field for Munchkin’s game, it started to rain. Thankfully, it cleared up shortly after our arrival. We didn’t really feel like getting soaked today. While the team (down 5 out of their 13 players) suffered their second loss, they played well and had a great time. They’re all pretty young and learning more with each game. We headed home shortly after the game for an afternoon and evening of rest.

And that, is a brief overview of our week. We’ve also been making preparations for Daddy’s return home. We’ve been getting the house decorated for fall and making sure that we have good things around for him to eat. We plan on spoiling him while he’s here and making the most of the little time that we have before he leaves. My posting will be scarce over the next few weeks as he’ll be home and then we’ll be seeing him off. I hope to get some pictures posted in the near future.
