Setting a Good Example

Posted in Family

Today, when I woke up, I had to decide what type of mood I would be in. Honestly, I didn’t feel like being chipper. I woke up missing D even though he hasn’t been gone long yet. I was a bit grumpy because I had a stiff neck from sleeping on the inflatable mattress. The dog woke up at 5:00 am wanting to go outside. The guinea pigs started squeaking for food at 6:00 am. Yet, it was a beautiful, sunny day outside. I had a warm, cozy house and food in the fridge/pantry. Nice, cool water to drink…

I grabbed a bite to eat and headed to the computer the read the Thankful Thursday posts as those always cheer me up. As I read the posts, I started to think about the type of example I wanted to set for my daughter today. When she woke up, I greeted her with a cheery good morning smile and hug. She smiled and gave me a good morning hug of her own. I decided that I needed to be in a good mood because I knew that she would follow my example.

As the mom, I basically set the tone for the house. The saying “when momma ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy” is quite true. Whether D is here or not, it doesn’t matter. It’s up to me to make our home a wonderful place to be. I want the house to be filled with positive, good energy. I want to set a good example for my daughter on how we should live our lives. I want her to know that we need to be grateful each and every day for what the Lord has blessed us with in our lives.

So, I decided that it didn’t matter how I felt inside today. I was going to be in a good mood. And guess what, the more I “pretended” to be in a good mood, the more I actually felt like I was in a good mood. Pretty soon, I was in a good mood!!

I can relate. I started the day wanting to count gripes not blessings. I knew my students needed a good example, though, so with the Thankful Thursday reminder, I made my list. Pretty soon, I had forgotten my gripes and was overwhelmed by how many blessings I could count.

Thank you for choosing to rejoice in the Lord, even when it isn’t easy. Your daughter will learn a great deal from that example.

Children do learn so much from moms don’t they? I agree, the mood I am in sets the tone for everyone else.

    Give thanks in all circumstances.

We may not always be in control of “how we feel” but we can always control “how we act”. And yes, we do determine what kind of day we will have. Glad you chose wisely.

What a great post, and very encouraging. My hubby is away this week too, and you’ve challenged me to try to wake up with a better, more positive attitude tomorrow! Thanks!
