Now, generally speaking, I prefer homemade over store bought, but there are times that it’s good just to be able to pick up some baked goods from the store. Plus, I have found that homebaked bread does not freeze well for my frozen sandwiches for D.
The bad thing is that good bread can cost several dollars a loaf. The solution? Head over to the bread outlets. Now, not all bakery/bread outlets are created equal. Some have good prices on some things, but regular prices on others. A good bread outlet will have very inexpensive bread and well priced extras. The key is to not spend too much on all the extras. Those pies and cookies can look really, really good depending on what time of day you head into the store.
Our current bread outlet is ok, but I was thrilled to find 2 nice bread outlets near our new location. I can save anywhere from $3-$4 a loaf on the multi-grain bread that we really enjoy. Yes, it’s scary how much a loaf of really good bread can cost.
I still believe that homemade is best, but that’s not always possible. When homemade isn’t possible, you have to look for frugal alternatives. To see more frugal ideas, just click on the Frugal Friday image.
Would you mind sharing your favorite ‘everyday bread’ recipe? I love the smell of bread making, and breadmakers make it so easy to do!
ahh great idea! I actually remember my mom doing that and we used to get it fresh off the rack for cheap…

My favorite everyday bread machine recipe can be found here. It’s an easy, but delicious recipe.
We go to the bread store about every other week. It has become part of our routine.
Ours has manager special days with $0.25 bread. Often it is the hearty bread that we prefer.
Sounds like you are getting settled in. Hope your daughter is sleeping better!
