Trip to Norfolk

Posted in Military Life, and Thoughts

Chesapeake Bridge

Well, we headed down to Norfolk on Saturday to check things out. We had viewed a few houses that looked nice on the internet, so we thought we’d check out the area. Boy were we surprised by the neighborhoods. Many were quite scary, so we learned that we’re going to really need to be careful about where we buy. We also found that we’ll probably need to live a little further from the base in order to find something that we like that’s not crazy high in price (especially for what you’re actually getting). It is an old coastal community, so commercial areas are not separated from residential areas. In addition, most homes have little to no yard which just doesn’t work for us.

The good thing is that we found some nice areas in Chesapeake which is right outside of Norfolk. There are a lot of great things to do in the area, but it will really take a lot of getting used to. The area is so different from anywhere that we’ve been before. All the water is beautiful though — the smell of the ocean is awesome! Virginia Beach is only 20 to 30 minutes away depending on where you are (and traffic). It will be an interesting move.

We’ll be praying that the Lord opens some doors for us to find the right home at the right price. I have to admit that after going and looking I was pretty concerned, but we know that it’s all in the Lord’s hands and it will all work out. We’ve been pretty spoiled with housing, so we’re trying to keep an open mind as we look. We don’t mind doing some work if the price is right. We’d rather give up some “house space” in order to have some land if we need to go that route. At least we have time to look. Since Norfolk is only about 2 1/2 hrs from here, it’s not too bad to go look.

Unfortunately, I came home feeling absolutely horrible. I think I have a sinus infection in addition to a bad sore throat and cough. Yuck! Hopefully, it will pass quickly. There is so much stuff going around and I can’t seem to stay healthy lately. It’s very frustrating when there are so many things that my daughter and I want to do. Lots of baking and what not that we want to get done.
