My Thoughts:

Both D and I like country music, but it isn’t always kid/family friendly. We tend to pick or choose the songs that we listen to when we do listen to country. We both were curious to see how Bob and Larry were going to make some of these country songs kid friendly. While we didn’t really care for Achy Breaky Heart even with the VeggieTales humor/commentary, most of the songs turn out to be pretty good. The songs are clean, but they still contain lyrics about romance that some parents may find objectionable. That being said, they did have fun with the songs by changing the meaning/focus of the lyrics to make them more kid friendly.

Examples:

  • I Will Always Love You was sung to a hairbrush and a cheeseburger rather than a person. The commentary throughout the song was way too funny.
  • You’re Still The One is sung between mother and child. Once again, the commentary had us in stitches.

We (Munchkin, Daddy, and I) did enjoy the cd because of all of the humorous commentary throughout the songs and in between the songs. It’s interesting hearing the VeggieTales characters sing country songs, but it was done in a way that was fun and entertaining. The commentary definitely put a different spin on the song lyrics which kept us laughing/grinning through the entire album. The producers did a great job compiling a cd that will be enjoyed by many kids and parents.
