Kick-Start Fitness Week 3: A New Routine

Posted in Family, and Fitness

Getting Ready for a Walk

Yesterday, I talked a little about a fresh look on life thanks to our crazy new dog.  I admit that I had forgotten some of the work that goes into owning a younger dog – especially a rescue dog.  We’ve quickly found that there are certain routines that he already has set in place, so we’re trying to keep some of these routines while establishing new ones.

Walk

One of Wiley’s established routines is daily walks. Now, they said that he walks well on a leash, but we soon found that wasn’t exactly the complete truth.  He does walk on a leash, but it will take some training to get him walking properly on a leash. Heel, stay, and come are not words that are currently in his vocabulary.  Even so, we routinely take at least 2 walks a day.  The unexpected benefit of having a dog that requires walks is that I’m out there walking a good bit.

Walking Shoes

My schedule has started to change as I seem to be adjusting more to Wiley’s schedule than he is to mine.  Eventually, I’m sure we’ll find a happy medium, but it’s going to take some time.  He likes to head to bed a little earlier and go on walks earlier in the morning.  Which means, my normal night owl self is going bed earlier in order to get up earlier for those sunrise walks.  I’m also on the computer less as training him is taking more time and energy.  Who would have thought that our new dog would be helping me get back in shape?

Taking a Run

Currently, Wiley is not helping keep me calm.  Nope, he’s trying my patience.  As he gets more comfortable with us and his new home, he’s becoming more mischievous which means that I’m taking him on longer, more intense walks.  I fall into bed exhausted at night.  Yesterday, I was so tired that I gave myself permission to take a nap to recharge my batteries.

Oranges

I’m finding that I’m eating better and drinking more water as that’s what my body is craving and needs to keep going.  My new favorite snack is Cuties oranges which gives me a little pick-me-up during the day.

Birds

As Wiley settles in a little more, I hope to be able to add more other exercises (Wii, xBox 360, Zumba) back into my routine.  For now, I’ll just embrace these new season, new routine and be thankful that we live in a milder climate.

    • Honestly, if he wasn’t already use to it, I would probably be really bad as well. He needs the exercise though as he’s pretty high energy. 😉

  1. I miss having a larger dog, he required sunrise walks, or I would pay from his bad behavior. Our new dog tires easily – but I can see he is lasting longer and longer. We found a car this weekend (haven’t had once since The Crew seemed to have a Transmission Virus), so I look forward to long walks at sunrise with my oldest son!

  2. Dog walking is great exercise, lol! Nothing like a rambunctious pup to get you going. I’m sure he’ll settle into a quieter routine after awhile.
