Handcrafted Vase with Clay Roses

Rose Buds

Project 365 – #043

After receiving the delivery of roses yesterday (pictured above), Munchkin was inspired to create some roses of her own from polymer clay.  The first rose was a beautiful red rose, but since the stem couldn’t support the head of the rose, the rose kept falling off.  I recommended that she create a stem from a pencil and work from there.  After covering the pencil with green clay, she began to create a beautiful orange rose, but her new rose needed a vase.

Polymer Clay Roses

Enter in a fun craft project using things from around the house…

Vase Supplies

We gathered up our supplies: Mod Podge, foam brush, tissue paper, glass pop bottle.  The tissue paper was torn up into easy to use 1 inch to 2 inch pieces.  We painted Mod Podge onto the glass bottle and placed the tissue paper on it carefully to avoid tearing it.  A little more Mod Podge ~ a little more tissue paper.  We worked our way up the bottle until it was completely covered.  After it dried a bit, we carefully painted on a layer or two of Mod Podge to seal the newly covered bottle.  Then we let it dry.  (For a more opaque look, you could add another layer of tissue paper.)

Red Vase with Clay Rose

Munchkin was so pleased to have a place to put her newly created rose, and she was tickled that she had made a special vase as well.  She continued on making more roses, and new vases are also being made with different colors/prints of tissue paper.

The vases were a fun, simple project that cost very little to make.  We both enjoy coming up with creative uses for things that we already have around the house.  Crafting definitely does not need to be expensive.
