Munchkin Passport to India

A month or so ago, I learned about a free program being offered by Sonlight curriculum called Passport to India.  When you sign up for the program, you can receive a package in the mail that contains information about the program, a passport for each participating student/child, and a suitcase. The suitcase is actually a bank, so you can collect money for the Children’s Bible Club in India.  (You can still sign up for the program.)

Starting on October 5th, a new video and lesson has been posted each Tuesday and Thursday.  We watch the video and do the lesson.  Munchkin is adding loose change to the suitcase in an effort to send more kids to Children’s Bible Club in India.  It only takes $1 to send a child.

This program has lead us to want to learn more about India, so we’re starting a unit study on Ancient India from Hands of a Child.  As I stated in the post about Munchkin’s India costume, we will be having an Indian dinner at the conclusion of our study.

One of the biggest impacts that this study has had on us so far is seeing how much we have compared to those in India.  We’ve been touched by the stories of the children and families in India.  We are truly grateful for what we have.  We are grateful to be living in the United States.

This month, I’ll be participating in the 2010 Gratitude Challenge hosted by Brenda at Garden of Learning.  Each day in November, I will be posting something that I am grateful for that day.  Some days, it may be short and sweet.  Other days, it may be long and thoughtful.  There will even be days where I post just a picture.  Whatever the case, I will be focusing on the many things for which I am grateful.

If the families in India can be joyful with the little they have, then I really need to be focusing more on praising the Lord for His many blessings.  This challenge will help us focus on the blessings, big and small, in our lives.

What are you most grateful for today?

Branch Of WisdomUpdated to add that I will also be linking up to A Month of Thanksgiving at Branch of Wisdom.  Somehow I missed that Tamara is hosting this.  It started on October 24th and goes to November 24th.  Thankfully, we only need to participate in 50% of the days to be counted. lol!  Sorry, Tamara.  I’m a little behind.

Tamara is also hosting a fun giveaway in conjunction with A Month of Thanksgiving.  You just need to participate 50% of the days, link to Branch of Wisdom, and sign the linky.

Special thanks to both Tamara and Brenda for reminding us to be thankful for all of the wonderful blessings in our lives.

Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. Oh, give thanks to the God of gods! For His mercy endures forever. Oh, give thanks to the Lord of lords! For His mercy endures forever. ~Psalm 136:1-3
