Math Tutor Review

Posted in Homeschooling, and Reviews

As part of the TOS Crew, we were given the opportunity to review 2 products from the Math Tutor dvd line.  We received The Basic Math Word Problem Tutor – 8 Hour Video Course and Young Minds – Numbers and Counting. Both Munchkin and I were impressed with The Basic Math Word Problem Tutor.  The instructor, Jason Gibson, was easy to listen to and follow.  He worked through each of the word problems on a white board step-by-step to allow the student to thoroughly understand each concept being taught.  You can read more about Jason’s educational and professional background here.…

Worship Guitar Class Volume 1 Review

Posted in Reviews

Jean Welles offers her Worship Guitar class in two formats: one for children ages 5-9 and one for anyone 10+.  As part of the TOS Crew, we received the Worship Guitar Class Volume One. Since we are already working on learning the guitar, we were excited to receive this class.  We soon found out that this wasn’t (in our opinion) a complete guitar class.  The class does a nice job teaching you to play the worship songs, but you are going to need an additional program if you want music theory and a more in depth guitar study. The course…

KinderBach Review

As a member of the TOS Crew, we received a 3 month subscription to KinderBach.  Unfortunately, this service is too young for Munchkin, so this will just be a brief informational review.  Please see the reviews of my crewmates for more in depth information on the actual use of the program. KinderBach offers 6 different levels (over 240 sessions) of fun, family friendly music classes for kids ages 3-7.  Through the instruction given my Miss Karri, students will learn to play simple songs and identify music direction, work on rhythm and learn beat value, train in proper hand and finger…

Bertie’s War by Barbara Tifft Blakey Description: Everything has been going wrong for Bertie lately. No matter how hard she tries to do and say the right thing, Bertie keeps tumbling into embarrassing–and sometimes dangerous–situations. Her stern father has too many rules, her know-it-all sister won’t stop teasing her, and her mischievous younger brother keeps getting into trouble. But what makes her really afraid are those Communist missiles pointed right at the U.S. As Bertie starts seventh grade in the fall of 1962, news of these missiles throws the nation into a panic and Bertie suddenly feels completely out of…

Maestro Classics: The Tortoise and the Hare Review

Posted in Homeschooling, and Reviews

Maestro Classics joins classic stories that children love with the beautiful music of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. When I popped in the cd to listen to our new Maestro Classics: The Tortoise and the Hare, Munchkin was less than enthusiastic.  You see, she knew this story all too well.  Thankfully, she was willing to sit and listen as she liked the music that livened up the story. The classical music with the narrator took me back to when my sister and I were little.  We use to put records on the record player.  (Uh, did I just date myself???)  Sometimes,…
