2010 Gluten Free Thanksgiving Menu

Posted in Holidays, and Homemaking

I thought it would be fun to blog through our Thanksgiving menu, so today, the plan is to blog about our Thanksgiving prep.  My plan is to post recipes and pictures for the various items on our Thanksgiving menu throughout the day.  Here’s what our menu looks like this year. What do you think?  Am I missing anything?  I’d love to hear your plans for Thanksgiving this year.  If you’ve posted a menu on your blog, please leave a link in the comments as I’d like to stop by and see it.

Remember a Thanksgiving Road Trip

Posted in Family, and Holidays

As I said in my previous post, Thanksgiving always meant a road trip to my grandpa and grandma’s house in PA.  Back then, road trips did not involve electronics as they do today.  Nope, we had to entertain ourselves from Michigan to Pennsylvania and back home again.  My sister and I would sit in the back seat and get along perfectly.  Um, well, okay, we did do some of the “she’s touching me” type of stuff, but the trips weren’t that bad.  At least, I don’t think they were.  I’m sure my Dad might have a little different take on…

Gearing up for Thanksgiving

Posted in Family, Holidays, and Homemaking

Our Thanksgiving preparations actually begin way back in October.  You see, we decorate for harvest starting on October 1st.  When the 1st of November arrives, we start to add in some Thanksgiving specific decorations.  The beginning of November also means that we’ll be doing some sort of a thankful craft.  This year, we did the Gratitude Tree.  Last year, we did the Giving Thanks Turkey craft.  Whatever craft we do, the purpose is to remind us to remain thankful during the month. Going gluten free changed how I prepared our Thanksgiving meal.  For years, I used doctored up store products…

Food, Family, and Football As I was looking for the Pretty, Pretty Princess picture of big T, I had the opportunity to look over many pictures from the past.  It got me thinking about past Thanksgiving traditions. Growing up, Thanksgiving meant that we were heading to my grandparent’s house in PA.  That’s where my Dad’s side of the family got together each year at Thanksgiving.  We would eat a huge Thanksgiving meal, watch A Christmas Story (“You’ll shoot your eye out!”), watch some football, and play lots of card games. We’d also head up to the mountain.  Sometimes, just the…

Gratitude Tree

Posted in Holidays

Each year, we try to make up a different Gratitude Tree. It helps us really focus on being thankful throughout the month of November. Sometimes, when the preparations for the holidays begin, we start to lose focus on what Thanksgiving is all about. Stress and frustration begins to creep in while tempers at times flare. Instead of having a grateful, servant’s heart, we start to focus on “what about me”. This year, I created a tree and leaves from scrapbook paper. Munchkin, D, and I have been writing all of the things for which we are grateful. Our once bare…
