Dixie’s Surgery

Posted in Family, and Homeschooling

Today was quite the interesting day which involved a “field trip” to a local vet to have Dixie’s tumor removed from her leg. Please note: some of this images may be disturbing to some people. I decided to post the pictures in black and white, so the images will be a little less graphic than their color form. Dixie, if you recall, is Munchkin’s foster horse at the horse rescue. Dixie came to the rescue with a large tumor on her leg. It needed to be removed, so Isabel (the owner of the rescue) set up an appointment with the…

A Lesson in Polymers: Making Slime with Borax

Posted in Homeschooling

It’s always fun to be able to do a hands-on science experiment that uses simple ingredients. When you add in the fact that you can actually play with the science experiment, well, it just adds to the excitement. When I received a box of Borax as a member of the Purex Insiders program, I thought it would be fun to do something out of the ordinary with it. I already knew that it works great for laundry and household cleaning. (We always have a box of it around the house.) I started thinking about science experiments dealing with polymers which…

Awesome Science: Meteor Crater and Petrified Forest

Posted in Reviews

In the first 2 episodes of the Awesome Science series, we explored the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone. In the 3rd episode, Noah Justice takes us along to Arizona as he explores Meteor Crater and Petrified Forest. Both of these locations are on our “want to see” list while we’re stationed here in Arizona. We have a little bit of petrified wood which is quite cool, so the idea of seeing the petrified wood on a grand scale is rather intriguing. In Explore Meteor Crater and Petrified Forest with Noah Justice, Noah continues with his educational and entertaining presentation style as he compares the evolutionary…

Awesome Science: Yellowstone

Posted in Reviews

During my first review of Awesome Science: Explore the Grand Canyon with Noah Justice, I introduced you to 14-year-old Noah Justice the host of the Awesome Science video series. In the second video of this series, Noah takes us to Wyoming to visit America’s first national park, Yellowstone. Yellowstone is one of the national parks that is still on our “to visit” list. In Exploring Yellowstone with Noah Justice, Noah continues with his educational yet entertaining presentation style as he compares the two different views of the Yellowstone. The video itself is a good quality production. Noah’s Dad, Kyle Justice,…
