Adventures in Puppyland: 1st Hiking Trip

Posted in Family, Outdoor Adventures, and Photography

We were thrilled when D decided that he finally felt up to hiking again as it had been a long time since we’ve been able to go hiking together as a family. Even when he was able to go hiking previously, due to his back issues, he was unable to even carry his own hydration pack. I was happy that he could now carry his own pack, and he wanted to tackle a longer hike with the pups. Based upon our regular walks, we knew that the pups would enjoy hiking to some extent. What we didn’t know is how…

Making Creation Our Classroom

Project 365 – #231 As you can probably tell, we love to make the Lord’s Creation our classroom.  There is something wonderful about learning outdoors surrounded by the beauty and wonder of nature.  Often, we’ll research the area where we will be exploring prior to heading out – especially when we’re going somewhere like the Grand Canyon.  We try to have books and other research material available for reading.  Munchkin likes to carry a nature/wildlife guide with her, so she can look things up during our hikes. The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is…

Grand Canyon: A Moment of Rest

Posted in Family, Outdoor Adventures, and Photography

Project 365 – #217 While everyone else in our crew hiked down just a little into the Grand Canyon, D found some rocks on which to rest.  Recovering from back surgery is no fun when you’re an active guy like him, but he was able to manage pretty well over the 2 weeks.  The girls decided they’d take a little rest with him.  Of course, there was a little messy around at the same time they were resting. **grin**

Doggy Boots

Project 365 – #192 For the record, I’m not normally one to get my pets their own clothing, but sometimes, it becomes a matter of necessity….  Now, occasionally, “puppy” will be given a costume by Munchkin, but he doesn’t usually get his own clothing. On the 4th of July weekend, we decided to go out exploring a little.  (More about that with pictures at a later date….)  At one point, we all got out to go look at some cool rock formations.  “Puppy” wanted to get out with us.  Keep in mind that we’re in the Az desert, and it’s…

Painted Rock Petroglyph Site

Posted in Homeschooling, Outdoor Adventures, and Photography

Project 365 – #106 Today, we stopped by Painted Rock Petroglyph Site which is located near Gila Bend, Az.  (We were on our way home from the Phoenix Gluten Free Expo – more about that later.)  A petroglyph is basically a symbolic or artistic rock etching.  Usually, you’ll only see a few here and there – if you’re fortunate to be able to find/see them.  At this location, there are literally hundreds of etchings. Why are there so many in one location?  Well, this area was a well traveled path for many people including expedition of Juan Bautista de Anza…
