The Birth of Desert Big Horn Sheep

Posted in Family, and Homeschooling

We’ve been fortunate to see several desert big horn sheep in the wild while we’ve lived here. Usually, we see only one or two, but a couple of times we’ve had the opportunity to see whole herds of them heading up into the rocking cliffs. Desert Big Horn Sheep are pretty interesting animals as they can survive on very little water which is important given the low level of rain fall that we receive each year. They get the vast majority of their moisture (hydration) from the vegetation that they eat. During the winter months, when it is cooler, they…

USS Midway

Posted in Family, Homeschooling, and Military Life

While we were over in San Diego spending time with Grandma and Grandpa, we decided that we would visit the USS Midway. To make the trip even more fun, we hopped on the ferry in Coronado and road it over to San Diego. We explored the ship, learned a bit more about aircraft carriers, and enjoyed listening to the World War II veteran. We all agreed that we wouldn’t really care to live aboard the ship – too close quarters for us. 😉 Poor Daddy had to duck pretty much the whole time we were on board except when we…

Out of Africa Wildlife Park

Project 365 – #224 One of our fun adventures while our family was visiting was going to the Out of Africa Wildlife Park.  It’s a privately owned and operated wildlife area that offers safari tours, animal exhibits, and wildlife shows.  As you can probably tell by the name, most of the animals are native to Africa, so our natural desert environment suits them nicely.  We were pleased to learn that they offer military discounts for general admission.  In addition to the safari, they have premium shows, but we decided not to do those – well, except for the tiger feeding.…

Desert Photo Scavenger Hunt Hike

Project 365 – #103 Since the temps are supposed to be on the rise this week, Munchkin and I decided that we’d head over to the Imperial National Wildlife Refuge on Tuesday.  D had hoped that he would be able to go with us, but his work schedule didn’t allow him to get away.  As we were getting things ready to leave, Munchkin asked if she could see if her friend could go with us.  I told her that it was fine to ask, so Munchkin ran next door to find out if she could join us on our adventure. …

Trip to Sea World Part 4

Posted in Family, Homeschooling, and Outdoor Adventures

I’m finally getting the last installment of the Sea World pictures up.  I’m sure I’ll have a few random animal pictures to share later, but for now, this wraps up the trip.  The final show that we saw was the Sea Lions Live show.  The stage looked like a television studio, and all of the show names were spoofs of real tv shows.  We cracked up at the crazy antics from the animals. After we finished up at the Sea Lions Live show, we headed over to the Arctic and saw some penguins and beluga whales. We thought the beluga…
