Review: Mornings and Evenings with Spurgeon

Posted in Reviews

Mornings and Evenings with Spurgeon Charles Spurgeon is known for his no-nonsense style devotions. His devotionals are thought-provoking and fluff-free.  As a teen, I was given the older Morning & Evening devotional by Spurgeon.  I used it, but I don’t think that I truly appreciated all that was being said in the devotionals. Starting to read these newly packaged devotionals now, as an adult, I can better grasp and appreciate Spurgeon’s style of devotionals.  I like the short devotionals that contain a good bit of meat.  I can start my day with a short devotional and think about it throughout…

Review: Sabbath The Ancient Practices

Sabbath: The Ancient Practices By Dan Allender, Phyllis Tickle As a family, we’ve been studying more about Biblical holidays including the Sabbath. Since we wanted to learn more about Sabbath, I thought this book might help us delve deeper into the topic. One of the things that I liked about the book is the emphasis on delighting in the Sabbath and not seeing it as a burden. My main problem with the book is that is wasn’t grounded in scripture; it was mainly based upon the author’s opinion. While I agreed with some of what was written, I would have…

Elements of Faith Vol. 1: Hydrogen to Tin Faith Facts and Learning Lesson from the Periodic Table Richard D. The…

A Legacy Walk through Marine Corps History The Timeline Exhibit of the National Museum of the Marine Corps We were fortunate to be part of the opening ceremonies for the Marine Corps Museum.  We were stationed near Quantico, Va, so we were able to watch as the museum was constructed.  On opening day, people were bused in because the crowds were so great.  Marines young and old, activity duty, reservists, and retirees showed up for this momentous occasion.  Finally, the Marine Corps had a place to where people could come together and remember the long, illustrious history of the Marine…

Review: Two Tickets to the Christmas Ball

Two Tickets to the Christmas Ball Donita K. Paul Mischievous matchmakers ~ Two special tickets ~ One unlikely couple I think it’s only fair to say that I tend to be picky when it comes to any romance novels/novellas – even Christian ones.  More often than not, I will pass on them unless I have recommendations from someone who knows me and my taste.  That being said, I’m a sucker for Christmas stories, so I decided to check out this book when it was offered for review. Cora is still trying to figure out the whole Christian walk.  Cora knows…
