Lapbooking Made Easy Part 2 – Lapbook Organization

Posted in Homeschooling

On Tuesday, I went over some of the basics of lapbooking in part 1 of Lapbooking Made Easy. Today, I’m going to cover the organizational aspects of lapbooking. What about all of those mini-books? Two of the common questions when it comes to the mini-books deal with cutting out the mini-books and storing the mini-books, so I thought I’d address those two things first before moving into the storage of the lapbooks themselves. Once you start lapbooking, you are probably going to realize that there is a good deal of cutting involved when it comes to the mini-books, and you…

Character Studies

Posted in Christian Life, and Homeschooling

For Bible this year, we’re going to be using the Keepers of the Faith Write Upon My Heart Character Curriculum as our spine. Since there are 18 books in the series, I asked Daddy to place them in the order in which he would like Munchkin to study them. Now I’m in the process of creating notebooking pages for each book in the series. (The books can be written in, but since I plan on adding more to the studies, I wanted to create notebooking pages for Munchkin to use. It will also create a nice keepsake for the future.)…

Lapbooking Made Easy – Getting Started with Lapbooks

Posted in Homeschooling

What is lapbooking? I like to think of lapbooking as a learning and review tool all wrapped up in one nice little package. You don’t need a lot of expensive supplies and anyone from toddlers to adults can make them. Mini-books are used to contain tid-bits of knowledge that students learn during their studies. Lapbooks can also be used to create mini-desks or study tools for students of all ages. Once completed, the lapbooks serve as reminders on what the student has studied/learned during the school year. When my daughter was younger, she enjoyed pulling out her completed lapbooks to…

Easy Gluten Free Hawaiian Pizza

Posted in Gluten Free, and Homemaking

When we received some of the new Wholly Salsa pineapple salsa to try out, I immediately knew that I wanted to make D some Hawaiian Pizza as it’s something that he really enjoys. Since the pineapple salsa has the peppers and spices already mixed in, prep for the pizza was very easy. To make the pizzas quickly when I don’t want to go through the process of making regular gluten free pizza crust, I just grab some of the gluten free brown rice tortillas. Since it’s been really hot here, I’ve been avoiding baking in the oven whenever possible which…

Game Day with Wholly Guacamole Giveaway

Football

It’s hard to believe that summer is coming to an end and college football season is getting ready to begin. On game days, when I know we’re going to be home to watch the game, I like to put together easy meals and snacks that can be grabbed whenever we’re hungry. By doing this, I don’t have to miss the game. Yes, I’m a big college football fan and even got D started with watching college football.

Growing up with a Dad who loved the University of Michigan meant that I had wolverine blood running through my veins. In high school, I had the opportunity to go to the Big House and watch the MI football games with my Dad. After high school, when we weren’t sitting in the stands, we still watched the games together whenever possible. Quite often game days were spent at my Dad’s house watching football and eating yummy food. Even after Munchkin was born, we spent as many game days as possible with my Dad.

Moving away from MI didn’t mean that we stopped watching the games, but it did mean that it wasn’t always easy to watch the games due to local programming. Yet, whenever possible, D and I would watch the games together. Munchkin has her own fond (and a few not-so-fond) memories of football games with Grandpa. One win concluded with Munchkin being spontaneously tossed up into the air by Grandpa which she didn’t like. lol!

Guacamole Football Field

It seems that you can’t have a fun game day without some yummy food. It just wouldn’t be the same. Around here, a couple of our favorite things to have on game day are layered dip and nachos. The layered dip includes layers of refried beans, salsa, cheese, sour cream, and guacamole. Of course, this also means making up some slow cooker chili to use on the nachos and dip.

The layered dip is super easy and can customized to individual taste preferences by using one of the many varieties of Wholly Guacamole. Munchkin likes plain – classic or organic – guacamole on her dip, so I usually make at least half of the dip with that. D loves a bit of kick with his dip, so I use a spicier guacamole for the other half of the dip. For this dip, I used some of the Wholly salsa. If you want to get creative with your dip, you can turn it into a football field and use center yard line (or one of the other markers if you’re using more than 2 varieties of guacamole) as your divider.

Wholly Guacamole

Wholly Guacamole has offered to send one of my readers a Wholly Guacamole prize pack to help celebrate the beginning of football season. Of course, if you’re not a football fan, you can always just enjoy it with some friends and family. Giveaway is open to US residents due to shipping constraints and ends September 10th.
