Wholly Heroes: Help Send Military Kids to Camp

Posted in Announcements, Commercial Break, and Reviews

September 16th is National Guacamole Day, but this year it’s not just about guacamole. Wholly Guacamole and author Brad Meltzer have teamed up to create a special t-shirt honoring our heroes with the goal of sending 100 military children to camp. You may know Brad Meltzer for his work with Ordinary People Change the World. He wanted to encourage kids to look past typical influences like sports figures and movie stars and be inspired by real heroes. It was this desire that lead him to write “Heroes for my Daughter” and “Heroes for my Son” which highlight heroes such as the Wright…

Everyday Matter Bible for Women NLT

Posted in Reviews

When the Everyday Matters Bible for Women arrived, my first impressions were that it was a beautiful, feminine looking Bible with its lovely aged turquoise color and delicate pink flowers gracing the cover. Munchkin even remarked that it was very pretty. The Everyday Matters Bible for Women is provided in the New Living Translation. While it’s not my preferred, primary translation, it can still be beneficial for studying scripture. I appreciated the fact that the Bible itself had a nice write-up on the New Living Translation, how it came to be, the reasoning behind the translation, methods used in translation,…

Game Day with Wholly Guacamole Giveaway

Posted in Family, Gluten Free, Homemaking, and Reviews

Football

It’s hard to believe that summer is coming to an end and college football season is getting ready to begin. On game days, when I know we’re going to be home to watch the game, I like to put together easy meals and snacks that can be grabbed whenever we’re hungry. By doing this, I don’t have to miss the game. Yes, I’m a big college football fan and even got D started with watching college football.

Growing up with a Dad who loved the University of Michigan meant that I had wolverine blood running through my veins. In high school, I had the opportunity to go to the Big House and watch the MI football games with my Dad. After high school, when we weren’t sitting in the stands, we still watched the games together whenever possible. Quite often game days were spent at my Dad’s house watching football and eating yummy food. Even after Munchkin was born, we spent as many game days as possible with my Dad.

Moving away from MI didn’t mean that we stopped watching the games, but it did mean that it wasn’t always easy to watch the games due to local programming. Yet, whenever possible, D and I would watch the games together. Munchkin has her own fond (and a few not-so-fond) memories of football games with Grandpa. One win concluded with Munchkin being spontaneously tossed up into the air by Grandpa which she didn’t like. lol!

Guacamole Football Field

It seems that you can’t have a fun game day without some yummy food. It just wouldn’t be the same. Around here, a couple of our favorite things to have on game day are layered dip and nachos. The layered dip includes layers of refried beans, salsa, cheese, sour cream, and guacamole. Of course, this also means making up some slow cooker chili to use on the nachos and dip.

The layered dip is super easy and can customized to individual taste preferences by using one of the many varieties of Wholly Guacamole. Munchkin likes plain – classic or organic – guacamole on her dip, so I usually make at least half of the dip with that. D loves a bit of kick with his dip, so I use a spicier guacamole for the other half of the dip. For this dip, I used some of the Wholly salsa. If you want to get creative with your dip, you can turn it into a football field and use center yard line (or one of the other markers if you’re using more than 2 varieties of guacamole) as your divider.

Wholly Guacamole

Wholly Guacamole has offered to send one of my readers a Wholly Guacamole prize pack to help celebrate the beginning of football season. Of course, if you’re not a football fan, you can always just enjoy it with some friends and family. Giveaway is open to US residents due to shipping constraints and ends September 10th.

The American Bible Challenge Giveaway

American Bible ChallengeThe American Bible Challenge Description:

Comedian and author, Jeff Foxworthy hosts this studio-based game in which contestants compete based on their knowledge of the Bible. Utilizing current as well as historical references, questions will be drawn from the rich, dense narrative found in the world’s best-selling book. The contestants will share their compelling back-stories and each team will be playing for a charitable organization. The American Bible Challenge is produced by RelativityREAL for GSN, with RelativityREAL’s Tom Forman (“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”) and Embassy Row’s Michael Davies (“The Newlywed Game,” “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire”) serving as Executive Producers on the project. Nick Stuart and Maura Dunbar of Odyssey Networks are Consulting Producers.

About the Host:

Comedian Jeff Foxworthy is the largest selling comedy-recording artist in history, a multiple Grammy® Award nominee and the best-selling author of 11 books. Widely known for his redneck jokes, his act goes beyond that to explore the humor in everyday family interactions and human nature.

My Thoughts:

I was given the opportunity to watch a preview, behind-the-scenes video of the American Bible Challenge. Jeff Foxworthy combines his humor with his knowledge of the Bible. I thought it was really interesting that he runs a Bible study group and gets together with others to dig deeper into the scriptures.

Some unique things about this game show:

  • Get to know the behind the scenes of the contestants
  • Bible-based
  • Gospel Choir
  • Contestants playing for charities
Yes, it’s a game show, but it’s also much bigger than that as you’re getting to know not only the contestants but also their charities. It’s bringing to light the Bible and faith. Add in the gospel choir and you’ve got a unique show that could be used for the glory of God. I look forward to seeing how this show comes together. Want to learn more?
