USMC Drum and Bugle Corps: Part 2

Posted in Military Life, and Photography

Project 365 – #064 Yesterday, I showed some pictures of the USMC Drum and Bugle Corps.  Today, I’m sharing pictures of the USMC Silent Drill Team.  I’ll never forget the first time I saw the Silent Drill Team at 8th & I when Munchkin was a baby.  It was an evening performance never to be forgotten. Before we knew it, the show was over, and it was time to head home.  If you ever get a chance to go see a performance, I highly recommend it.  This performance was just a practice to get ready for the real thing, but…

USMC Drum and Bugle Corps: Part One

Posted in Military Life, and Photography

Project 365 – #063 One of the very cool things about where we live is that we get to enjoy the practice sessions of the USMC Drum and Bugle Corps – Commandant’s Own.  We don’t need to get all dressed up.  We just get to go and sit on the grassy parade deck and enjoy the show.  This year, as usual, the weather was beautiful.  Not too hot, not too cold.  We walked over to the parade deck with some friends to enjoy the presentation. A Legacy Walk through Marine Corps History The Timeline Exhibit of the National Museum of the Marine Corps We were fortunate to be part of the opening ceremonies for the Marine Corps Museum.  We were stationed near Quantico, Va, so we were able to watch as the museum was constructed.  On opening day, people were bused in because the crowds were so great.  Marines young and old, activity duty, reservists, and retirees showed up for this momentous occasion.  Finally, the Marine Corps had a place to where people could come together and remember the long, illustrious history of the Marine…

Marine Twas the Night before Christmas

Posted in Holidays, and Military Life

Tonight, I will fill our stockings and climb into a comfy bed with my Marine as he is safely home with me on this December eve. Sadly, there are many other families who will be without their deployed loved one. This evening, as we remember the birth of our Savior and the sacrifices that He made for us, we will also be remembering those troops who are far from home – looking up into the night sky – thinking of loved ones at home. We will pray for their safety. We will pray that the will know the comfort and…

Happy Veteran’s Day 2010

Posted in Holidays, and Military Life

Over the years, Veteran’s Day has meant different things to me.  When I was younger, I didn’t completely understand the significance.  Once D joined the Corps, my understanding started to significantly grow.  His first deployment lead to a deeper understanding.  During the next deployment, he was actually gone for Veteran’s Day.  It was then that the meaning of it all truly sank in. I sat there on the computer putting together a Veteran’s Day post to honor all of the veterans.  I looked at pictures from war after war.  Thoughts rolled through my mind ~ honor, courage, commitment ~ freedom…
