Native American Talking Stick Craft

Posted in Homeschooling

Native American Talking Stick The Talking Stick is a tool traditionally used by Native Americans when a council is called. It was a visual queue as to who had the right to talk during the gathering. The talking stick would be passed from person to person as their turn came to speak. Only one person was allowed to speak at once. This method encouraged other council members to listen to the speaker and be respectful of the person’s viewpoint during their turn with the talking stick. The idea was that the viewpoint of each member of the council would be valued…

Winter Writing Prompts Notebooking Pages

Posted in Homeschooling

Just in time for winter, I’ve created some simple Winter Writing Prompt Notebooking Pages as a free download. This set consists of 31 different pages and prompts focused on the winter theme. Even though we don’t live in a snowy climate, I chose to stick with the typical winter activities. The Winter Writing Prompts notebooking pages are now part of the Marine Corps Nomads Homeschool Resource Library. They’re still free, but they’re now hosted right here. All of the free homeschool resources are available in one easy-access location. You can sign up for free access to the resource library below.…

Names of Jesus Study

Posted in Holidays, and Homeschooling

I was trying to decide what we should do for our Christmas studies this year, but nothing really was coming to mind. We’ve done a variety of studies over the years, but I finally decided that we were going to go back and do another Names of Jesus study. Because I didn’t want to go exactly the same route as before, I created some ornaments for the names that we’d be studying as well as some notebooking…

Printable Passport with State Stamps

Posted in Homeschooling

As you know, I recently started putting together the state notebooking pages, and I started to think about other fun ways to study the states. I remembered the stamps that you can get at the different National Parks (and some state parks) that allow you to stamp you own “passport” when you visit. I knew that some people had used a printable passport when they studied different countries and decided it would be a fun idea to incorporate into the study of the states. I designed a basic printable passport that can be personalized with the student’s picture and other…

Testing for TaeKwonDo Yellow Belt

Posted in Family, Fitness, and Homeschooling

While Gramma and Grampa were here visiting, Munchkin had the opportunity to test for her TaeKwonDo yellow belt. She was nervous and excited all rolled up into one as testing day approached. We all (including Gramma and Grampa) headed over the dojang on Saturday morning. One by one the students who were testing went over their steps and forms, answered questions, and performed the tasks requested by the testing panel. When Munchkin’s turn came, I was allowed to enter the room to take pictures. (I had asked her prior to the testing if she was okay with me being in…
