President Harry S. Truman led the effort to establish a single holiday for citizens to come together and thank our military members for their patriotic service in support of our country. On August 31, 1949, Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of an Armed Forces Day to replace separate Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force Days. The single-day celebration stemmed from the unification of the Armed Forces under one department — the Department of Defense. My Mother’s Day

I have to admit that I wasn’t really expecting much from my Mother’s Day as D is gone. I was in for a pleasant surprise! Munchkin hid little notes around the house leading me on a “treasure” hunt. (She did this on Saturday evening before bed and instructed me not to look around the house after she went to bed.) So, on Sunday morning after she got up, we headed out on my treasure hunt.
