I'm proudly married to my best friend, an active duty US Marine. I'm happily taking care of our homestead and our ever growing entourage of animals. 1st Hike after Knee Surgery

Posted in Family, and Outdoor Adventures

Our regular 52 Hike Challenge hikes came to a screeching halt with the move and all of the other changes in our lives. I was really missing hiking, but it was necessary to set aside my hiking plans to get things done around the homestead. Getting a homestead up and running is no joke, but that’s a story for another time. When D found out he was definitely going to need knee surgery, we had hoped to get out and do a little hike or two before the surgery, but once again, life had other plans. The positive aspect of…

History of Veterans Day

Posted in Holidays, and Military Life

On this day, November 11, 2017, we say thank you to all of the veterans who honorably served our country. I would also like to say thank you to the family members who also served. Success at Guadalcanal proved to be the turning point that ultimately paved the way for Allied victory in the Pacific. Those warriors defended their positions in brutal conditions against a formidable enemy – and…

Finding Beauty in the Storms of Life

Posted in Family, and Military Life

Beauty can be found all around us. There are times when you have to search a little harder to find that beauty. The storms of life can make it difficult to see the beauty, but it’s still there. A glimpse of sunlight through the clouds. A rainbow after a huge thunderstorm. A tiny green bud peeking out of a muddy, flooded area. As of late, my family has been in survival mode. We’ve been striving to find the beauty in the many storms that keep hitting us one after another. Ironically, the weather around us seems to be mimicking life.…

A Season of Change

Posted in Family

Life has turned a bit upside down for the Marine Corps Nomads family as we entered into a huge season of change. From moving to the homestead to sending our girl off to college to being in 3 different locations as a family, this summer has been a true season of change. As we started with all of the changes, I couldn’t help but this of this scripture passage from Ecclesiastes 3: For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and…
