Works for Me Wednesday: Workboxes

Posted in Homemaking, and Homeschooling

It seems like Sue Patrick’s workboxes are being talked about everywhere on the internet. The truth is, when I first heard about them, I didn’t see how they would help us, but I was still interested as it sounded like a cool concept.

It wasn’t until I was able to attend one of Sue’s seminars during the HOTM online conference that I started to change my thinking about workboxes. When she generously offered a free ebook to the military families in attendance, I quickly jumped at the chance to be able to check out the book. After the attending the conference and reading the book, I knew that I wanted to implement workboxes into our homeschool.

Now, being true to my nature, I knew that I would want to tweak the system to work best for Munchkin. I also knew that I wanted to personalize the designs for her. I decided to use magazine boxes for our system as they will hold any textbooks or notebooks easily.

Our workboxes all filled for today: 1)Grapevine Studies (Bible), 2)math file folder game, 3)Teaching Textbooks, 4)Apologia Biology, 5)Nature Friend magazine, 6)parts of speech file folder game, 7)state study activity, 8)grammar/writing activity, 9)state file folder game, 10)typing/spanish, 11)lapbook, 12)art

Since Munchkin likes brown and pink, I made the labels and accessories in brown and pink.

I made little mini file folders to hold her assignment cards for the day.

These assignment cards, mini file folders, and box labels are available here for free download.

Munchkin enjoys using the workbox system because we have incorporated more fun activities and games into our school day. I like that the system encourages me to use all of those great activities that I have stored on my computer or on my bookshelves. Workboxes definitely work for us!

I really like the idea of using magazine boxes. That seems better than shoe boxes, but the scope of this is overwhelming. Seriously, where would any person store 108 magazine boxes???? 🙂 With 9 children nearly every workbox method seems to take up too much space.

Still searching and hoping to come up with a solution.

By the way, I love the brown and pink, very nice!
