Encouraging My Daughter

Horse Encouragement CardsProject 365 – #245

When you wake up in the middle of night having that feeling that you need to pray, you listen.  When you feel the Lord leading you to be an encouragement, you do it.  These are the things that I’ve learned over the years, and I know that the Lord uses these moments in the middle of the night to get my attention.  I also know that I need to follow whatever I am lead to do even if it’s in the middle of the night.

Last night, my dog woke me up to go outside.  After we came back to my room, I could not fall asleep.  I had the little feeling in the back of my mind that kept telling me that I needed to pray for Munchkin, and that I needed to do something to encourage her.  I didn’t know why I needed to do something right then, but I did.

I prayed for my little girl.  I poured my heart out to the Lord.  After spending some time in prayer, I started putting a little something together that I know would encourage her.  I took some pictures of horses and added some scriptures to create scripture postcards.  I then put these on her bathroom mirror as a way to encourage her.  After I did these things, I was able to fall into a sound sleep and feel rested even with a little less sleep.

Today, Munchkin woke up feeling less than her normal self.  She was feeling a little down.  We spent more time in prayer and some time cuddling.  When she saw the surprise in her bathroom, her spirits lifted, and every trip to the bathroom seemed to lift her mood.  I then knew why the Lord lead me to pray for our girl and create a little something special for her in the middle of the night.  She needed it as soon as she rose from bed this morning.

As a mom, it’s my job and my heart’s desire to be a prayer warrior for my girl.  I need to make sure that I’m there for her and lift her up.  Sometimes, I fall down on the job, but thankfully, the Lord always seems to send timely reminders my way.

Before going to bed, I read this poem.  The author is unknown…

I have a Mother Who Prays for Me

Some have had kings in their lineage,
Some to whom honor was paid.
Not blest of my ancestors–but,
I have a mother who prays.

I have a mother who prays for me
And pleads with the Lord every day for me.
Oh what a difference it makes for me–
I have a mother who prays.

Some have worldly success
And trust in riches they’ve made–
This is my surest asset,
I have a mother who prays.

My mother’s prayers cannot save me,
Only mine can avail;
But mother introduced me to Someone–
Someone who never could fail.

Oh yes…I have a mother who prays for me
And pleads with the Lord every day for me.
Oh what a difference it makes for me–
I have a mother who prays.

I am grateful that I have both a stepmother and mother-in-law who I know pray for me and my family. Now, it’s my turn to teach my daughter to be a prayer warrior. I need to lead by example and allow her to feel the power of prayer in her life.

I, too, wake up in the middle of the night sometimes only to realize the Lord has laid something upon my heart to be in prayer or action about.

Have a great weekend! Blessings to you and Munchkin!

  4. How sweet and what a great idea!

You can use dry-erase markers on the mirror to write a note. It wipes right off.

    • We do that all the time. In fact, I keep a dry-erase marker in the bathroom just for that purpose. 🙂
