The Perfect Holiday

Posted in Family, and Thoughts

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been bombarded with all of these ideas about the perfect Thanksgiving or the perfect Christmas. There are all kinds of lists and articles being published on how to create the perfect holiday. The only problem is that these types of lists and articles are really setting us up for failure (according to their standards).

Thinking about this, I started to ponder on what is my idea of a perfect holiday. Truly, it has nothing to do with the decorations (even though I love decorating) or the perfect meal (although I love preparing a special feast). It is all about being thankful for what we have and celebrating our Lord. You see, it is all too easy to get caught up in the perfect holiday celebration and forget what we’re really celebrating.

For me, the perfect holiday is just being with my family. It’s enjoying our time together and making wonderful memories that will last a lifetime. Will my holidays be “perfect” this year? No, as D is not here with us, but they will be nearly perfect as we are truly blessed. As we enter into this holiday season, let us all take a moment to think about the true meaning of the holidays.
