Zion: Temple of Sinawava

Posted in Family, and Outdoor Adventures

The Temple of Sinawava is the last shuttle stop in Zion.  It is here that you can take a mile long hike to the beginning of the Narrows, a tall slot canyon.  While we did make the hike back to the beginning of The Narrows, we had to stop instead of trekking forward as we desired.  Soon, you will see why we needed to stop.

The trail to The Narrows is set up so you could take a wheelchair down it.  It wouldn’t be easy, in my opinion, but it would be possible.  The Virgin River passes by you on the trail.  Several locations allow hikers to head down to the water if so desired.

All along the trail, we encountered extremely fat, friendly squirrels.  The squirrels would go from one person to the next posing as if they were waiting for food.  While you are not suppose to feed the squirrels, I would have to say that these squirrels were use to getting treats for their antics.

When you arrive at the end of the trail, you can head down to the water and enter The Narrows.  The Narrows are beautiful slot canyon, but you have to walk in the water.  At times, the water can be thigh deep, so you really need to have appropriate shoes and attire for that trek.

Once we arrived at the end of the trail and wished we could continue onward, we turned back and hiked a little over a mile back to the shuttle stop and rode the shuttle bus back to the visitor center.  Munchkin needed to complete the last few things on her Junior Ranger book before we headed over to the Ranger.

We were plum tuckered out after our long day at Zion, and glad when we made it back to our home away from home.  We ended up having a longer day than expected, but it was a great day.  Zion and Bryce Canyon are two completely different National Parks even though they aren’t that far apart.

We had one more adventure in store for this trip, and it had to do with dinosaurs.
