Freecycle

Posted in Thrifty Ideas

Hmm… what’s freecycle you ask? Freecycle is a great way to get rid of all that clutter and stuff you no longer use. It’s also a great way to get some amazing things free! That’s right freecycle is like a constant free garage sale. You post stuff that you want to give away and other people post things that they want to give away. Now, you are “competing” to receive stuff just as others are competing for your stuff. Here’s another great thing — people come and pick up your stuff from your house; no more carting stuff to goodwill/the dump. When you are gifted with an item, you go pick it up. It’s a great system. You can even post the occasional want ad if you need something that hasn’t been posted.

Since we’re downsizing to a smaller house in our new location, I’ve started to give away many things. Granted, some things I have sold to others, but most things we’re just giving away. All in all, it all evens out as we’ve received some really nice things from others. Here’s just some of the things that we’ve received: loft bed for my daughter, deep fryer, books, clothes, storage items, generator, portable basketball hoop, fish tank…. You get the idea. 🙂

Oh, we even just received a sofa/bed. Now, I know what you’re thinking — I thought you said you were downsizing. Well, I have a specific reason for getting this item. We’ll no longer have the guest bedroom, so the office will need a sleeping surface for those that come to visit. See? Doesn’t it make sense now? My daughter’s loft bed won’t fit in her new room, so she wants to put the futon platform with her mattress in the new room. Sounds good to me. 🙂

Anyway, the point of all of this is I highly encourage you to check out the freecycle group in your area. You can go to http://www.freecycle.org/ and find a local group or check out yahoo groups to find a group in your area. Have fun!!
