Munchkin and I have been without internet for nearly a week.
For me, it’s been a little frustrating at times as there have been things that I wanted to get done, but, at the same time, it’s been a rather productive week without the distraction that the internet can bring with it. (I did have access to my email on my phone, so I did my best to stay somewhat on top of that at least.)
Munchkin, on the other hand, didn’t miss having internet at all which surprised me. When I asked if she wanted to head to the library to utilize the internet, she turned down the opportunity. She said that she was even a bit surprised that she had enjoyed not being connected to the internet. Sure, she missed not being able to research things, but it was oddly relaxing not having the draw of the internet.
It’s funny how tethered we can get to the internet. It’s become so integrated into our daily lives. We use it for everything from communicating to learning to researching to shopping to…. Yet, when faced with disconnecting for some time, it can be a conflict between withdraw and relief. It certainly reminds me that I need to be more mindful of how much time I spend on the internet when I do have it readily available.
Munchkin is growing up so fast, so I want to make sure that I make the most of that time with her. The break from the internet gave me to the opportunity to have even more quality time with her for which I am quite grateful.
