We’ve enjoyed the music from Tenth Avenue North for some time now, so we were looking forward to listening to their new album courtesy of Family Christian Bookstore.
About Cathedrals:
With the songs on Cathedrals, Tenth Avenue North encourages us to get off our self-made islands of isolation, to break the chains of shame that have kept us there and to find communion with God and each other. Tenth Avenue North encourages us to realize God’s spirit doesn’t dwell in buildings, He dwells in us – for we are His cathedrals.

Our Thoughts:
Munchkin enjoyed several of the songs on the album including I Need You, I Love You, I Want You, Heaven’s Sound, Closer, and Iesu, Dulcis Memoria. Her favorite song on the entire album was Iesu, Dulcis Memoria as it was relaxing and beautiful. Some of the other songs she felt lacked depth. It’s pretty normal for her to only like a handful of songs on an album as she’s rather particular about her music. Some of the songs had too much of a “pop” feel for her.
D and I felt that the album over all was good, and we plan on adding it to our driving music playlist. It had a slightly different feel to it than previous albums, so I recommend checking it out prior to purchase to make sure you like the sound.
As you can see from the differing opinions in my family, music really is a subjective thing. Sometimes, it depends on where you are in your life or what you need to hear at this moment in time. Sometimes a song will speak to you while another song just doesn’t hit the mark. We found that was the case with this album. We all wished that the song Iesu, Dulcis Memoria was longer as it was so beautiful and unique.
Heaven’s Sound Lyrics
(Mike Donehey, Jason Jamison, Jeff Owen, Brendon Shirley, Ruben Juarez)From our darkest alleys
To our stained glass walls
However high we climb
No matter how many times we fall
From our greatest trials
To our deepest defeats
There is a song forever being sung by the redeemed
We can lift our voices
The strong, the weak, come onWe will cry, fill the sky with the melody
‘Til our chorus shakes the ground
We are known, we are loved for all eternity
Let this breath join Heaven’s soundIn our secret addictions
Let mercy flood in
And out of forgiveness
The power to break the chains begins
In our driest wheat fields
Let the brush fires burn
And out of the ashes
Beauty of love and life returns
So let us lift our voices
The strong, the weak, come onHeaven sounds like we’re finally breathing
Heaven sounds like the guilty made clean
Heaven sounds like the rolling of thunder
Heaven sounds like prisoners free
Heaven sounds, Heaven soundsLet us join in Heaven’s sound
Can you hear it now
Can you hear it now
Cathedrals is another solid album by Tenth Avenue North. It has a variety of different sounds and themes which means that some songs will, most likely, resonate with you more than others.
Special thanks to Family Christian Bookstore for providing my family with the opportunity to listen to this album in our home. All opinions are our own.
